As micro-organisms are brought into liquid growth media, they break down large, low or uncharged molecules. The herewith emerging ions lead to measurable changes in the charge and hence in the electric conductivity of the medium.


SY-LAB impedance analysers work according to a unique measurement principle. While the M-Value indicates the changes in the liquid medium itself, the E-Value detects growth even when high salt levels are present due to enhancing selectivity.

Applications
Electric impedance is the most versatile among all alternative microbial methods. It can be used for qualitative and quantitative applications to detect the bioburden load, the quantity of selected groups of micro-organisms or the presence/absence of selected pathogens.
